YouTube TV and Disney Resume Negotiations Amid Channel Blackout
YouTube TV and Disney are in renewed talks to restore access to Disney-owned channels after a contract dispute led to their removal from the streaming platform.
YouTube TV and Disney have re-engaged in negotiations to resolve a contract dispute that resulted in the removal of Disney-owned channels from the streaming service. The blackout, which began on October 31, 2025, affected popular networks including ABC, ESPN, Disney Channel, FX, and National Geographic.
The conflict arose when the two companies failed to agree on new retransmission consent payments and a carriage agreement upon the expiration of their previous contract. YouTube TV accused Disney of demanding terms that would lead to higher subscription costs, while Disney alleged that Google, YouTube's parent company, was leveraging its market power to push for unfavorable conditions.
In response to the disruption, YouTube TV offered subscribers a $20 credit and assured users they are actively working to reach a fair agreement and restore Disney's programming.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr commented on the situation, urging both companies to resolve the issue swiftly, emphasizing that viewers deserve access to programming they've paid for, including football.
As negotiations continue, subscribers remain without access to the affected channels, impacting their ability to view certain sports and entertainment content.
