OpenAI Projects $20 Billion Annual Revenue and $1.4 Trillion in Data Center Investments
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announces projected annual revenue exceeding $20 billion and plans for $1.4 trillion in data center investments over the next eight years.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that the company anticipates surpassing $20 billion in annualized revenue by the end of this year, with plans to expand to hundreds of billions by 2030. He also revealed commitments totaling approximately $1.4 trillion for data center investments over the next eight years.
In a recent post, Altman outlined several forthcoming business initiatives expected to drive significant revenue growth. These include an enterprise offering, consumer devices, robotics, and scientific discovery. Additionally, OpenAI is exploring the possibility of becoming a cloud computing provider, aiming to sell compute capacity directly to other companies and individuals.
To support these ambitious plans, OpenAI has entered into substantial agreements with major technology partners. In July 2025, the company agreed to pay Oracle $30 billion annually for data center services, as part of the Stargate project—a $500 billion initiative to build AI infrastructure in the United States. Furthermore, in May 2025, Oracle committed to purchasing approximately 400,000 Nvidia GB200 chips, valued at around $40 billion, to power OpenAI's new data center in Abilene, Texas.
These strategic investments and partnerships underscore OpenAI's commitment to scaling its operations and infrastructure to meet the growing demand for AI technologies.
