Google Ends Participation in Movies Anywhere Amid Disney Dispute

Summary

Google Play and YouTube have ceased support for Movies Anywhere, preventing new purchases from syncing across platforms, following a dispute with Disney.

Google Play and YouTube have ceased their participation in the Movies Anywhere program, effective October 31, 2025. This change prevents new movie purchases made through these platforms from syncing with Movies Anywhere, a service that allows users to access their digital movie libraries across multiple platforms.

Movies Anywhere, owned by Disney, enables users to consolidate their digital movie collections from various retailers. The termination of Google's involvement coincides with a broader dispute between Google and Disney, which has also led to the removal of Disney-owned channels from YouTube TV.

Existing movies previously synced through Google Play and YouTube remain accessible on Movies Anywhere. However, new purchases made on these platforms after the cutoff date will not integrate with the service.

The dispute has also resulted in Disney pulling its content from Google-owned storefronts, including Google TV, YouTube, and the Play Store. Users can no longer purchase or rent Disney-owned movies and TV shows through these services, though previously purchased content remains available.
