Michael Burry's Short Positions on Nvidia and Palantir Prompt Market Reaction and CEO Criticism
Investor Michael Burry's significant short positions on Nvidia and Palantir have led to stock declines and sharp criticism from Palantir CEO Alex Karp.
Investor Michael Burry, known for predicting the 2008 financial crisis, has disclosed substantial short positions against Nvidia and Palantir Technologies through his firm, Scion Asset Management. Regulatory filings reveal that Scion held put options covering approximately 5 million shares of Palantir, valued at $912 million, and 1 million shares of Nvidia, worth $187 million, as of the third quarter of 2025.
Following the disclosure, Palantir's stock declined by over 7% in pre-market trading, while Nvidia experienced a nearly 2% drop.
Palantir CEO Alex Karp criticized Burry's strategy, stating, "The two companies he's shorting are the ones making all the money, which is super weird."
Burry has previously expressed concerns about a potential bubble in AI-related stocks, comparing current valuations to those during the dot-com era.
As of November 5, 2025, Nvidia's stock price is $201.49, up 0.014% from the previous close, while Palantir's stock is at $186.18, down 2.39%.
