Apple is reportedly developing a foldable iPhone, aiming for a 2026 release. The device is expected to feature a book-style design, similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold, with a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner display when unfolded. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests the device will measure between 9 and 9.5 mm when folded and around 4.5 to 4.8 mm when unfolded.
The foldable iPhone is anticipated to have a titanium chassis, with the hinge constructed from a combination of titanium and stainless steel. Apple is reportedly using liquid metal in the hinges to improve durability and reduce screen creasing.
Camera specifications are expected to include a dual-lens rear camera and front-facing cameras for both folded and unfolded states. The device may utilize a Touch ID side button for authentication, foregoing Face ID to conserve internal space.
For cellular connectivity, the foldable iPhone is expected to use Apple's second-generation C2 modem and may lack a physical SIM slot. Battery life improvements are anticipated through the use of high-density battery cells and a focus on power efficiency.
Color options currently being tested include black and white. Pricing is projected between $2,000 and $2,500 in the United States, positioning it as a premium segment device.
The launch date is expected to be in late 2026, with mass production beginning in the fourth quarter of that year.
