King Charles III Strips Prince Andrew of Titles and Evicts Him from Royal Residence

Summary

King Charles III has removed Prince Andrew's remaining titles and ordered his eviction from the Royal Lodge residence.

King Charles III has stripped his brother, Prince Andrew, of his remaining titles and ordered his eviction from the Royal Lodge residence. Buckingham Palace announced that the king "initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew." Effective immediately, Andrew will be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and will vacate his Royal Lodge residence for private accommodation.

The decision follows renewed scrutiny over Andrew's association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and allegations by Virginia Roberts Giuffre. Despite Andrew's continued denial of the allegations, the palace stated, "These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him." The statement also emphasized the royal family's support for abuse victims: "Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse."

Andrew, 65, has faced public criticism after emails emerged showing he maintained contact with Epstein longer than previously admitted. Additionally, Giuffre's posthumous memoir detailed alleged sexual encounters with Andrew when she was 17. Andrew has consistently denied these claims but stepped down from royal duties in 2019 following a controversial BBC interview. In 2022, he settled a civil suit filed by Giuffre in New York, paying millions without admitting wrongdoing but acknowledging her suffering as a victim of sex trafficking. Giuffre died by suicide in April at the age of 41.

Andrew is expected to relocate to a property on the king's Sandringham estate and receive private financial support from his brother. His ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, who had been living with him in the 30-room mansion, will need to find new accommodation.
