Justice Department to Monitor Polling Sites in California and New Jersey
The U.S. Department of Justice will deploy election monitors to six counties in California and New Jersey during the November 4 elections to ensure compliance with federal voting laws.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced plans to monitor polling sites in six counties across California and New Jersey during the upcoming November 4 elections. This initiative aims to ensure transparency, ballot security, and adherence to federal voting laws.
Attorney General Pam Bondi emphasized the importance of this effort, stating, "Transparency at the polls translates into faith in the electoral process, and this Department of Justice is committed to upholding the highest standards of election integrity."
The monitoring will focus on Passaic County in New Jersey, as well as Kern, Riverside, Fresno, Orange, and Los Angeles counties in California. The decision follows requests from the Republican parties in both states, which cited concerns over potential election irregularities in these jurisdictions.
Los Angeles County Clerk Dean Logan noted that the presence of election observers is standard practice nationwide. He stated, "Federal election monitors, like all election observers, are welcome to view election activities at designated locations to confirm transparency and integrity in the election process."
The Justice Department's Civil Rights Division will oversee the deployment of personnel to these locations, coordinating with U.S. Attorney's Offices to monitor compliance with federal voting rights laws.
