Apple Plans to Launch iPhone 20 in 2027, Skipping iPhone 19
Apple is expected to release the iPhone 20 in 2027, bypassing the iPhone 19, to mark the 20th anniversary of the iPhone series.
Apple is anticipated to introduce the iPhone 20 in 2027, skipping the iPhone 19, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its smartphone series.
At a conference in Seoul on October 22, 2025, Omdia's Senior Researcher Heo Moo-yeol stated that Apple plans to release six new iPhone models in 2027. The initial launch in the first half of the year is expected to include the iPhone 18e and the base iPhone 20, followed by the iPhone 20 Air, Pro, Pro Max, and the second-generation iPhone Fold in the latter half.
This naming strategy mirrors Apple's 2017 decision to skip the iPhone 9 and introduce the iPhone X for the 10th anniversary.
The shift in Apple's release schedule is projected to temporarily reduce demand for OLED panels by approximately 20 million units in 2026. However, panel shipments are expected to rebound in 2027, with total annual shipments potentially reaching 250 million units if the launch of two foldable iPhone models gains momentum.
Apple's strategy to diversify its product lineup aims to cater to various price brackets and customer preferences, potentially increasing annual shipments and enhancing its competitive position in the smartphone market.
