Oakley and Meta Launch Vanguard Smart Glasses for Athletes

Oakley and Meta have unveiled the Vanguard smart glasses, a $500 device designed to integrate advanced technology into athletic eyewear. The Vanguard features a wraparound frame with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera positioned centrally above the nose bridge, offering a 122-degree field of view for capturing first-person videos and photos. The glasses also include open-ear speakers and multiple microphones, enabling clear audio playback and voice command functionality.

A notable feature is the integration with Garmin devices, allowing users to access real-time fitness data and receive audio feedback during workouts. This collaboration aims to provide athletes with hands-free access to performance metrics, enhancing training sessions. The glasses are equipped with Meta AI, enabling voice-activated controls for various functions, including media playback and fitness tracking.

The Vanguard offers up to nine hours of battery life on a single charge, with a charging case extending usage up to 36 hours. The device is rated IP67 for water and dust resistance, making it suitable for various outdoor activities.
