Microsoft has partnered with ASUS to introduce the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, expanding its presence into the handheld gaming sector.
The ROG Xbox Ally features an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, 16GB of memory, and 512GB of storage, while the ROG Xbox Ally X is equipped with an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of memory, and 1TB of storage. Both devices boast a 7-inch, 1080p, 120Hz IPS screen with variable refresh rate capabilities.
These handhelds run on an optimized version of Windows 11 Home, integrating features from Microsoft's Game Bar and ASUS' Armoury Crate app. Users can access games from multiple digital storefronts, including Xbox, Steam, and Battle.net.
Sarah Bond, President of Xbox, emphasized the collaborative effort, stating, "We looked at, how do we create multiple options for people? And it really was ASUS, because this is their hardware. That is all of their insight into the market, into the feature set, into what people want, to determine the ultimate prices of the devices."
The ROG Xbox Ally series is set to launch during the 2025 holiday season in the United States and select markets.
