President Donald Trump hosted a dinner at the White House on Wednesday evening to honor nearly 130 donors contributing to the construction of a new $250 million ballroom. The event, held in the East Room, featured attendees from major corporations including Amazon, Apple, Booz Allen Hamilton, Coinbase, Comcast, Google, Lockheed Martin, Meta Platforms, and T-Mobile.
The planned 90,000-square-foot ballroom, designed to accommodate up to 999 guests, will be constructed with bulletproof glass and architectural elements consistent with the White House's historic character. President Trump expressed confidence in the project's financial management, stating that fundraising efforts were progressing well and predicting a surplus upon completion.
During the dinner, guests were served an heirloom tomato panzanella salad, beef Wellington, and a dessert of roasted Anjou pears with cinnamon crumble and butterscotch ice cream.
The ballroom project has yet to receive approvals from the National Capital Planning Commission and the Commission of Fine Arts. However, White House staff secretary Will Scharf, who also leads the planning commission, indicated that such approvals may not be necessary.
In addition to the ballroom, President Trump unveiled plans for an arch featuring Lady Liberty atop, to be situated at one end of the Arlington Memorial Bridge connecting Virginia and the District of Columbia.
