International Leaders Convene in Egypt to Finalize Gaza Peace Agreement
Over 20 global leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, are set to attend a summit in Sharm el-Sheikh to finalize an agreement aimed at ending the Gaza conflict.
Egypt is set to host an international summit in Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday, aiming to finalize an agreement to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The summit will be co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump, with participation from over 20 global leaders.
The gathering seeks to solidify support for the second phase of President Trump's peace plan, which includes disarming Hamas and establishing a new governing body in Gaza. A U.S. official noted that the event aims for the four guarantors of Trump's plan—the U.S., Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey—to "agree to the very broad principles" of the current 20-point framework.
Notably, Israel and Hamas have not been invited to the summit. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to attend, though the PA was not initially invited.
The summit also aims to pave the way for broader regional normalization with Israel, a shared goal of Israel and the Trump administration.
The summit follows a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, brokered by the U.S., which has led to the release of hostages and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from major urban areas in Gaza.
The summit is expected to address the future governance of Gaza and the disarmament of Hamas, key components of Trump's proposed 20-point plan.
