Former NFL Quarterback Mark Sanchez Stabbed and Arrested in Indianapolis

Summary

Mark Sanchez, former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports analyst, was stabbed and subsequently arrested in Indianapolis. He faces multiple misdemeanor charges following the incident.

Former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez was hospitalized early Saturday morning after being stabbed during an altercation in downtown Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to a call around 12:30 a.m. and found Sanchez injured at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Following an investigation and consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, IMPD arrested the 38-year-old Sanchez for his alleged involvement in the incident. He faces misdemeanor charges of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication.

Sanchez was in Indianapolis to cover the upcoming Colts-Raiders game for Fox Sports. In a statement, Fox Sports expressed gratitude to the medical team for their care and support, adding, "Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family's privacy during this time."

Sanchez, a Long Beach native, led Mission Viejo High School to a Southern Section Division II title in 2004. He played at USC from 2006 to 2008, passing for 3,965 yards and 41 touchdowns. In his final season, he led the Trojans to a 12-1 record and a Rose Bowl victory. Despite objections from then-USC coach Pete Carroll, Sanchez entered the NFL draft early and was selected fifth overall by the New York Jets in 2009. Over eight NFL seasons, he posted a 37-36 record as a starter, with stints at the Jets, Eagles, Cowboys, and Washington.

The New York Jets and several of Sanchez's former teammates have expressed support on social media. The Jets stated, "Sending our thoughts and love to Mark Sanchez and his family. Hoping for a speedy recovery, 6," referencing his former jersey number. Former teammate Kerry Rhodes wrote, "Send prayers up for my former teammate Mark... sucks so much to see this," while Nick Mangold added, "So sad. Pray for his recovery."
