Second Detainee Dies Following Dallas ICE Facility Shooting
A second detainee has died after last week's shooting at a Dallas ICE facility, bringing the death toll to two.
A second detainee has died following last week's shooting at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, according to a statement from the League of United Latin American Citizens. The family of 32-year-old Miguel Ángel García-Hernández confirmed his death after he was removed from life support.
The attack occurred on September 24, when 29-year-old Joshua Jahn opened fire from a nearby rooftop onto the ICE facility and a transport van holding detainees. Jahn, who reportedly harbored animosity toward the U.S. government, took his own life after the assault.
Another detainee, 37-year-old Norlan Guzman-Fuentes from El Salvador, was also killed in the attack. No ICE personnel were injured.
García-Hernández's wife, Stephany Gauffeny, described him as "a good man, a loving father, and the provider for our family." She added, "His death is a senseless tragedy that has left our family shattered."
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that her administration assisted García-Hernández's mother with travel arrangements to Dallas and has requested a thorough investigation from U.S. authorities.
The incident has heightened concerns within immigrant communities and among advocates, who fear increased targeting amid rising anti-immigrant rhetoric.
