Microsoft Releases Windows 11 Version 25H2 Update
Microsoft has begun rolling out Windows 11 version 25H2, focusing on security enhancements and system optimizations.
Microsoft has initiated the rollout of Windows 11 version 25H2, the latest annual update for its operating system. This update is delivered as a small "enablement package," ensuring a swift installation process.
John Cable, Vice President of Program Management for Windows Servicing and Delivery, stated that both versions 24H2 and 25H2 share a common code base and servicing branch, which streamlines the update process.
Version 25H2 introduces significant advancements in build and runtime vulnerability detection, coupled with AI-assisted secure coding. These enhancements are designed to address and mitigate security threats in adherence to a robust security development lifecycle (SDL) policy and requirements.
Additionally, the update removes PowerShell 2.0 and the Windows Management Instrumentation command-line (WMIC) to streamline the system.
Users can access the 25H2 update by enabling the "get the latest updates as soon as they’re available" option in Windows Update. Microsoft advises that if potential issues, such as application or driver incompatibilities, are detected, a safeguard hold may be implemented to delay the update until the issue is resolved.
The rollout will expand over the coming months, with Microsoft providing updates on known issues and device incompatibilities through its Windows release health hub.
