President Trump Shares AI-Generated Video Amid Government Shutdown Talks
As a government shutdown looms, President Trump shares an AI-generated video depicting Democratic leaders, drawing criticism from Schumer and Jeffries.
As the United States approaches a potential government shutdown, President Donald Trump has shared an AI-generated video on social media featuring Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. The video portrays Schumer advocating for undocumented immigrants to receive free healthcare, suggesting that minority voters dislike Democrats and that additional votes are needed in the upcoming election. Accompanied by mariachi music, the altered voice in the video states, "There's no way to sugar coat it: Nobody likes Democrats anymore."
The video was posted on President Trump's X account as well as his official Truth Social account. CNN has reached out to the White House for comment.
In response, Jeffries wrote on X, "Bigotry will get you nowhere. Cancel the Cuts. Lower the Cost. Save Healthcare. We are NOT backing down." Schumer added, "If you think your shutdown is a joke, it just proves what we all know: You can't negotiate. You can only throw tantrums."
Earlier, Schumer and Jeffries met with President Trump at the White House to discuss the impending shutdown. The meeting, which also included Senate Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson, concluded without an agreement. Government funding is set to expire at midnight on Tuesday. Democratic leaders have called for negotiations on healthcare funding to prevent the shutdown.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Schumer referred to President Trump as the ultimate "decision maker" and stated, "If he will accept some of the things we ask, which we think the American people are for on healthcare and on rescissions, he can avoid a shutdown, but there's still large differences between us."
Jeffries emphasized the importance of extending Affordable Care Act subsidies, noting that more than 20 million Americans could face increased premiums, co-pays, and deductibles if the subsidies are not extended. He stated, "Working-class Americans, their health care, that's what we're fighting to preserve, to defend and to strengthen."
