U.S. Stock Futures Edge Higher Amid AI Valuation Concerns
U.S. stock futures rose slightly on Monday following a week of declines driven by concerns over AI stock valuations and Federal Reserve comments.
U.S. stock futures showed modest gains early Monday, with Nasdaq 100, Dow Jones Industrial Average, and S&P 500 futures up 0.39%, 0.27%, and 0.31%, respectively, as of 12:24 a.m. EDT on September 29. This uptick follows a week where major indexes declined due to apprehensions about potential overvaluation in the AI sector.
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell recently highlighted concerns over stretched equity valuations, particularly within technology and AI stocks, contributing to last week's market downturn.
Despite these concerns, U.S. markets closed higher on Friday after August's Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) data met expectations, rising 0.3% month-over-month and 2.7% year-over-year. Additionally, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reported a 0.6% month-over-month increase in consumer spending for August, surpassing the anticipated 0.5% rise.
Looking ahead, investors are focusing on the upcoming release of September's non-farm payrolls and unemployment rate reports, scheduled for Friday. These reports will provide insights into job creation and the percentage of individuals actively seeking employment.
In corporate earnings, several notable companies are set to report this week, including Jefferies Financial Group, Carnival Corporation, Nike, Conagra Brands, Delta Air Lines, PepsiCo, and Levi Strauss & Co.
