Austin police have identified Robert Eugene Brashers, who died by suicide in 1999, as a suspect in the 1991 murders of four teenage girls at a local yogurt shop, following new DNA evidence. The victims—13-year-old Amy Ayers, 17-year-old Eliza Thomas, 17-year-old Jennifer Harbison, and her 15-year-old sister, Sarah Harbison—were found bound, gagged, and fatally shot inside the "I Can't Believe It's Yogurt!" shop, which was then set ablaze.
Brashers had previously been linked to other violent crimes, including the 1990 strangulation of a South Carolina woman and the 1998 shooting of a mother and daughter in Missouri. He died by suicide during a standoff with police in 1999.
The case, which has remained unsolved for over three decades, gained renewed attention with the recent release of an HBO documentary series. Austin police have scheduled a news conference for Monday to provide further details on their findings.
