DNA testing has confirmed that human remains discovered near Leavenworth, Washington, are those of Travis Decker, the man accused of killing his three daughters in June. Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison announced the results on Thursday, stating that the Washington State Patrol crime lab matched Decker's DNA to the remains found on Grindstone Mountain, approximately three-quarters of a mile from where his daughters' bodies were located.
The discovery concludes a nearly four-month search for Decker, who had been the subject of a nationwide manhunt since the bodies of his daughters—Paityn, 9; Evelyn, 8; and Olivia, 5—were found near his abandoned truck at Rock Island Campground.
Sheriff Morrison emphasized the importance of the DNA confirmation to dispel any doubts about Decker's death. He noted that the remains were found in rugged terrain, making the search particularly challenging.
The Chelan County Coroner's Office is conducting further investigations to determine the cause and manner of Decker's death. Authorities have stated that they do not believe there are any other suspects or leads to follow in this case.
Sheriff Morrison expressed gratitude to the multiple agencies involved in the search efforts, including the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, and various sheriff's offices, for their assistance in bringing closure to the case.
