Production company seeks new broadcaster for unaired Married At First Sight series after Channel 4 cancellation
Channel 4 has cancelled the reality series Married At First Sight following an independent review of allegations, and the show's producer CPL is negotiating with other broadcasters to air the pre-recorded episodes.
Channel 4 announced the permanent cancellation of the reality dating series Married At First Sight after an external investigation was launched by chief executive Priya Dogra in response to allegations made by three former participants. The investigation, prompted by claims of non-consensual sexual activity, led to an independent review that found several isolated incidents did not fully comply with the channel's welfare framework, though it concluded that the duty of care provided was adequate and that Ofcom’s Broadcasting Code was not breached.
The review recommended a number of format changes, including the removal of certain themed weeks, adjustments to living arrangements, reduced episode counts, and the introduction of additional safety measures such as CCTV monitoring, safe words and panic buttons. Despite the recommendations, Channel 4 decided to discontinue the programme entirely, including a full series that had already been filmed.
CPL, the production company behind the show, is now in discussions with other television channels and streaming platforms to place the unaired series. An insider said CPL intends to implement the review’s recommendations if the series is taken forward, but Channel 4 has opted not to continue the partnership. Sources indicated that CPL learned of the cancellation early on the day the press release was issued and are actively seeking an alternative outlet for the completed episodes.
