Summary

President Trump announced Stephen Miller will succeed Susie Wiles as chief of staff, hours after indicating on 60 Minutes that staff changes were forthcoming following the midterm elections.

President Trump said Stephen Miller will take over as White House chief of staff, replacing Susie Wiles, in a statement made on Friday. The announcement came a few hours after the president told CBS News' 60 Minutes that he expected to make a few personnel changes after Republicans lost both chambers of Congress.

When 60 Minutes correspondent Ross Douthat asked whether he planned to fire anyone, Trump replied, "I do, yeah. Little bit." He added, "I love my Cabinet. I think they're good, but I'll … be doing maybe a few changes."

"I do," Trump said when asked if he had confidence in Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, after earlier reports that he had consulted advisers about the secretary's future.

Trump also referenced past military actions, stating, "Look, we've won two wars. We've won Venezuela and taken out billions and billions and billions of dollars already. And we will be taking out many billions of dollars and get along very well. And, you could call it a territory, you could call it whatever you want. We won that war in less than one hour."

After announcing Wiles' departure, Trump told reporters he "wanted to make a change," adding that "sometimes in life, you have to make moves." CBS News reported that Wiles submitted her resignation on Thursday, a move linked to the GOP's midterm defeats. Wiles is among the most senior officials to leave the administration this year, following departures of Attorney General Pam Bondi, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer.
