Rahul Gandhi took to X to challenge Amit Shah to persuade Prime Minister Narendra Modi into an open debate on the SIR exercise, while Shah defended parliamentary norms and said the government could even call a special session.
Rahul Gandhi posted on X, demanding that Amit Shah persuade Prime Minister Narendra Modi to agree to an open debate on the SIR exercise, saying, "Amit Shah ji, don't confuse Modi ji. Just convince him to have an open debate with me. Any platform, any time. Don't be afraid." The post included two video clips of Shah: one in which he said there could be no debate on SIR in Parliament, and another in which he appeared to invite Gandhi to raise the issue in the House.
Shah later replied, stating that Parliament is the supreme forum for debate and accusing Gandhi of disrupting parliamentary proceedings. He added that the government was prepared to call a special session of Parliament to discuss SIR and suggested that Prime Minister Modi could appoint a moderator, including Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat.
Gandhi responded in Hindi, challenging Modi to a debate on accusations of anti-nationalism and alleged foreign links, and urged the Prime Minister to act quickly, adding, "Do it as soon as possible. Don't be afraid."
