Rahul Gandhi publicly demanded that Amit Shah persuade Prime Minister Narendra Modi to face a transparent debate on the SIR exercise, while Shah countered by invoking parliamentary procedure and the possibility of a special session.
Rahul Gandhi posted on X, pressing Amit Shah to persuade Prime Minister Narendra Modi to agree to an open debate on the SIR exercise, saying, "Amit Shah ji, don't confuse Modi ji. Just convince him to have an open debate with me. Any platform, any time. Don't be afraid." The post carried two video clips of Shah: one in which he declared that there could be no debate on SIR in Parliament, and another in which he seemed to invite Gandhi to raise the issue in the House.
Shah later replied, insisting that Parliament is the highest forum for debate and accusing Gandhi of derailing parliamentary proceedings. He said the government was ready to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss SIR and suggested that Prime Minister Modi could appoint a moderator, including Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat.
Gandhi responded in Hindi, directly challenging Modi to a debate on allegations of anti-nationalism and supposed foreign links, and urged the Prime Minister to act quickly, adding, "Do it as soon as possible. Don't be afraid."
