Dallas ICE Facility Shooting Leaves One Detainee Dead, Two Injured; Suspect Dies by Suicide
A shooting at a Dallas ICE field office resulted in one detainee's death, two others injured, and the suspect's suicide; authorities are investigating the incident as targeted violence.
A shooting occurred at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Dallas on Wednesday morning, resulting in the death of one detainee and critical injuries to two others. The suspected shooter, identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No law enforcement officers were harmed during the incident.
The attack began around 6:40 a.m. when the shooter fired from an elevated position, targeting the facility's sally port—a secure area used for transferring detainees. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) described the event as "an attack on ICE law enforcement."
FBI Special Agent in Charge Joseph Rothrock stated, "Early evidence that we've seen from rounds that were found near the suspected shooter contain messages that are anti-ICE in nature."
The FBI is investigating the shooting as an act of targeted violence. This incident follows other recent attacks on immigration enforcement facilities in Texas, including a July 4 assault on a detention center in Alvarado and a July 7 shooting at a Border Patrol facility in McAllen.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott expressed support for ICE, stating, "Both the Texas Dept. of Public Safety & Texas National Guard work closely with ICE. This assassination will NOT slow our arrest, detention, & deportation of illegal immigrants."
Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the attack and are urging the public to report any relevant information to assist in the ongoing investigation.
