Multiple European flights diverted after bomb threats
A series of bomb threats forced the diversion of at least eight commercial flights across Europe, including an Aer Lingus service that landed at a French military base.
Several passenger flights were diverted or landed safely after receiving bomb threats this morning, authorities said. An Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Rome was redirected to Evreux, France, where a bomb squad inspected the aircraft and passengers were moved to a secure area. The French prime minister’s office confirmed the plane touched down at a military base and that the situation was being closely monitored.
Ryanair flights bound for Sofia from Madrid, Copenhagen and London Stansted were diverted, with the London-origin flight landing at Plovdiv Airport in Bulgaria. A LOT Polish Airlines flight from Warsaw to Brussels was rerouted to Brussels Airport after a suspicious report, and a WizzAir service from Milan to Warsaw landed in Vienna, Austria.
Finnair confirmed two separate threats: one on a Helsinki-Rome flight, which landed safely in Rome, and another on a Helsinki-Vienna flight that arrived in Vienna without incident.
"The bomb squad is in place to inspect the aircraft and passengers have been moved to a safe location," a French government spokesperson said.
"We are monitoring the situation closely," the French prime minister’s office added.
European authorities continue to investigate whether the threats are coordinated. The incidents follow a recent spate of false bomb alerts that also disrupted schools in Italy.
