Amit Shah firmly rebuffed Rahul Gandhi’s attempt to grandstand with a public debate challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding that the opposition leader face the issue in Parliament while blasting Congress for its attacks on Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah strongly responded to Rahul Gandhi's recent invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a public debate by urging the opposition leader to bring his theatrics to Parliament, where the nation can witness a real discussion. Speaking at a rally in Karnal, Haryana, Shah said, "I want to challenge Rahul Gandhi directly. You challenge PM Modi for a discussion? If you want a discussion, simply write a letter to PM Modi. We are ready to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the SIR exercise...Come and debate in Parliament."
Shah referenced Gandhi's November 3 post on X, in which the Congress leader asked for a debate on accusations of anti-national activities and alleged foreign connections. The minister also hit out at Congress for demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, arguing that the party has been rejected by voters time and again despite any Special Intensive Revision (SIR) measures in 2014, 2019 and 2024.
He added that BJP supporters would provide a "fitting reply" if Gandhi keeps holding street rallies, and claimed that public sentiment has consistently stood against Congress, citing the poor turnout at a recent gathering in Delhi. Shah concluded by saying that as Leader of the Opposition, Gandhi should disclose details of his foreign visits, stating, "People have the right to know."
