Chiefs explore long-term wide receiver trade ahead of deadline

Summary

Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid said the team is reviewing trade options for a wide receiver, preferring a long-term addition, with players like Josh Downs and Brian Thomas Jr. mentioned as possible targets before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.

Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters that general manager Brett Veach has been circulating potential trade targets with the coaching staff for about a month. The team is looking for a wide receiver they can keep beyond a single season, rather than a short-term rental, according to A to Z Sports reporter Charles Goldman.

Goldman said the Chiefs could also consider offensive and defensive line additions, but a receiver acquisition is likely to come first. He noted that Josh Downs and Brian Thomas Jr. have entered trade discussions, though he does not expect a move before Sunday. A deal could still be reached early next week, before the league’s November 10 trade deadline.

The Los Angeles Rams face severe cap and draft-pick constraints, having traded away multiple future picks and possessing only $8,000 in 2026 cap space. Analyst Nate Atkins suggested the Rams consider Josh Downs as a top option because of his ability to beat man coverage and contribute on special teams, with other possibilities including Calvin Ridley, Keenan Allen and Jauan Jennings, likely at the cost of a Day 3 pick.

Both Downs and Thomas Jr. have seen limited production this season, and their respective teams have indicated they are on the trade block. The Colts, in particular, have been active in selling assets, having recently moved offensive guard Quenton Nelson and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.

"We’re going to continue to support him, put him in the best position to make plays, and do what we have to do on Sunday," Chiefs assistant coach Matt Bunch said, emphasizing the team’s commitment to its receivers.

The trade market remains fluid as teams address roster needs ahead of the deadline.
