Summary

CNN projects that Democrats have flipped both chambers of Congress, while world leaders issue reactions and President Donald Trump says he will accept the results.

CNN projects that Democrats have secured a majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate following the 2026 midterm elections, though dozens of races remain uncalled. The network notes that 71 of the 435 House contests are still pending, with more than three million votes yet to be counted.

International leaders responded quickly. Spain’s prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, said the U.S. vote was “against the policies that only impoverish, against hate, against machismo, against climate denialism and against the privileges of the elites.” Iran’s parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, posted that Americans used the elections to say “NO TO WAR.” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov remarked that President Donald Trump “continues to hold office, and we sincerely hope that he will also continue his peace-making efforts.” Russian parliamentarian Leonid Slutsky told CNN that the situation was “early for a final conclusion” but added that Trump was “in a negative situation.”

The United Kingdom’s health minister, James Frith, called the night “enormous for American democracy and for the Democrats,” and said the UK would “maintain its excellent relationship” with the United States. Norway’s prime minister, Jonas Gahr Støre, described the results as a “powerful political signal about a change of course among American voters.” South Africa’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa, said the outcome would “introduce a new era in world relations.”

President Trump told the New York Times that he is “absolutely willing to accept those results” and congratulated the Democrats, adding that they “did a good job.” He also downplayed the midterm losses for his party, telling Fox News that they do not reflect a rebuke of his presidency and highlighted what he described as “the greatest two years in the history of the presidency.”

The article lists several still-unprojected House races across states such as Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, and others, indicating where Democrats or Republicans currently hold leads.
