Summary

Tenerife forward Jesus de Miguel died following a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during a Segunda División game, prompting match suspensions and condolences from clubs and officials.

Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel died on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, after sustaining injuries in a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during a Spanish second-division match that ended 2-2. The incident occurred near the end of the game at the Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez stadium, leading to Owono’s dismissal and the abandonment of the match.

Spanish police have opened an investigation under judicial supervision. Media reports indicated that de Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest, was resuscitated and taken to intensive care, but his condition worsened neurologically before he died.

"Broken with pain, with a lump in our throat and unable to believe this is real, CD Tenerife announces the tragic death, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesus de Miguel Alameda," the club said in a statement.

"No words can ease the pain, nothing can lessen this great feeling of sadness. Our thoughts are with the family, his close friends and Tenerife fans, who today are grieving over this terrible news," the statement added.

Former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué, Andorra’s majority shareholder, expressed sorrow on social media, and the Andorran club sent condolences to de Miguel’s family and teammates. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) postponed Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina matches on Tuesday as a sign of respect, while UEFA announced a minute’s silence before upcoming Champions League, Europa League and Conference League fixtures.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, and other clubs also issued statements of sympathy. Players such as Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi and Rafael Nadal posted messages of support on Instagram.

La Liga side Espanyol delayed the presentation of its new coach, and some clubs opted not to train. Spanish football chief Javier Tebas and Sports Minister Milagros Tolón posted condolences on social media.

De Miguel, 30, had joined Tenerife in the summer of 2025 after a spell with Castellón and had previously played for Leganés, Unionistas de Salamanca and other clubs.
