Police confirmed the incident was isolated, no injuries were reported and the threat was contained, while the university continued to advise shelter-in-place until the area was cleared.
Police confirmed there is no ongoing threat to public safety after the University of Toronto issued a shelter-in-place order for its Mississauga campus. The order was first announced at about 9:30 p.m. following reports of police activity at the McLuhan Court residence on 3330 Residence Road.
Peel Regional Police later updated that the incident was "isolated and contained to a single residential unit" near Mississauga Road and Inner Circle, and that no injuries had been reported. The immediate area was evacuated and residents were asked to remain inside, while the public was advised to avoid the location.
The shelter-in-place directive remained in effect into the early hours of Tuesday. A university spokesperson told CP24 that alerts would be sent to the campus community every 30 minutes until police deemed the area safe.
"Alerts will continue to be sent every 30 minutes until police deem the area safe," the spokesperson said.
Peel Regional Paramedic Services were dispatched to the scene but reported no patients. Police later confirmed that no one was injured and that the situation posed no continuing risk to public safety.
