Massachusetts mother on suicide watch as legal proceedings continue

Summary

Lindsay Clancy remains on suicide watch in a state psychiatric facility while awaiting a new trial on murder charges and pursuing a lawsuit against medical providers.

Lindsay Clancy, a mother from Massachusetts charged with the deaths of her three children, is currently under suicide watch in a state psychiatric facility. Her attorney, Rosemary Scapicchio, told CBS News that Clancy has expressed a desire to die and wishes to be with her children.

"She doesn't want to be here," Scapicchio said, adding that Clancy experiences frequent distressing thoughts about her children each morning.

Clancy is accused of strangling her children—5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan—in January 2023 and then jumping from a second-story window, which left her partially paralyzed. Her first murder trial ended in a mistrial in September, and a new court date is set for Monday to determine whether prosecutors will seek a retrial.

In addition to the criminal case, Clancy has filed a lawsuit against 11 medical professionals, alleging inadequate treatment of a psychiatric condition prior to the incident. Her legal team claims she suffered from postpartum psychosis, a claim the defendants have denied.

Clancy continues to plead not guilty to the murder charges while remaining in the psychiatric facility.
