Trump Announces Potential U.S. Investors in TikTok Deal
President Donald Trump has identified prominent American business leaders, including Rupert Murdoch, Michael Dell, and Larry Ellison, as potential investors in a deal to transfer TikTok's U.S. operations to American control.
President Donald Trump has indicated that media mogul Rupert Murdoch, his son Lachlan Murdoch, and tech entrepreneur Michael Dell may participate in a deal to bring TikTok's U.S. operations under American ownership.
In a recent interview, Trump stated, "I think they're going to be in the group. A couple of others. Really great people, very prominent people. And they're also American patriots, you know, they love this country. I think they're going to do a really good job."
The proposed agreement aims to address national security concerns by transferring TikTok's American assets from China's ByteDance to U.S. investors. Oracle founder Larry Ellison is also expected to be involved, with Oracle overseeing data and security operations.
Negotiations are ongoing, with a deadline set for December 16 to finalize the deal.
TikTok, owned by ByteDance, has faced scrutiny over its algorithm, which U.S. officials fear could be manipulated by Chinese authorities.
Congress had passed legislation calling for a TikTok ban to take effect in January, but the Trump administration has extended deadlines to facilitate a sale of its U.S. operations.
Trump acknowledged TikTok's role in connecting him with younger voters, noting that conservative activist Charlie Kirk had encouraged him to use the app.
Representatives for Ellison, Dell, and the Murdochs have not yet commented on their potential involvement.
