President Trump Intensifies Efforts Against Political Opponents
President Donald Trump has urged Attorney General Pam Bondi to expedite investigations into political adversaries, including New York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director James Comey, while appointing loyalists to key positions and implementing new media restrictions.
President Donald Trump has publicly urged Attorney General Pam Bondi to accelerate investigations into political adversaries, including New York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director James Comey. In a social media post addressed to Bondi, Trump expressed concern over the lack of progress, stating, "We can't delay any longer, it's killing our reputation and credibility."
Trump emphasized the need for swift action, telling reporters, "We have to act fast — one way or the other. They're guilty, they're not guilty — we have to act fast. If they're not guilty, that's fine. If they are guilty or if they should be charged, they should be charged. And we have to do it now."
The president has also appointed Lindsey Halligan as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, succeeding Erik Siebert, who resigned. This move follows the appointment of other loyalists, such as former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro in the District of Columbia and former attorney Alina Habba in New Jersey.
Additionally, the Pentagon has introduced new media restrictions, requiring credentialed journalists to sign a pledge refraining from reporting unauthorized information, including unclassified data. Non-compliance may result in the loss of press credentials.
These actions have sparked criticism from various quarters. Senator Chris Murphy, D-Conn., remarked, "It will come back and boomerang on conservatives and Republicans at some point if this becomes the norm."
The Justice Department has not responded to requests for comment on these developments.
