Senator Chris Murphy Hospitalized After Stroke, Expected to Recover
U.S. Senator Chris Murphy was taken to hospital after suffering a stroke at his son's hockey game; his team said doctors are optimistic about his recovery.
U.S. Senator Chris Murphy, 53, was hospitalized on Saturday after experiencing a stroke while attending his son's hockey game, his office said. He reported numbness in his arm and was promptly taken to a medical facility where doctors confirmed the stroke.
"The doctors are encouraged by his progress, he is awake and alert, and we are optimistic he will make a full recovery," the senator's team said.
Murphy, who is not up for re-election in the current midterm cycle, had been traveling to support Democratic candidates in Michigan, Minnesota and Florida and was slated to visit New Hampshire on Sunday. He has served in the Senate since 2013 after a tenure in the House of Representatives.
Senator John Fetterman, who previously survived a stroke, posted a message on social media wishing Murphy and his family a speedy recovery.
