Suspect in Chainsaw Attack on Schoolgirls Shot During Arrest Attempt
A man accused of attacking two schoolgirls with a chainsaw in Andhra Pradesh was shot by police while resisting arrest in a forest area on Sunday.
Police shot and arrested a man identified as Hemant, who is accused of attacking two class 10 students with a chainsaw at a government school in Raptadu on October 31. On Sunday, police attempted to apprehend him in the Atmakur forest area after receiving information about his whereabouts. When officers approached, Hemant allegedly attacked them, prompting police to fire six rounds.
Sources indicate that Hemant sustained serious injuries during the incident and was transported to the District Government General Hospital in Anantapur for treatment. Reports suggest that he also injured the Raptadu Circle Inspector during the confrontation, although this has not been independently confirmed.
One of the girls involved in the attack suffered critical injuries, including the loss of her right hand, while the other was injured while trying to protect her classmate. The critically injured girl was initially treated at Anantapur Government General Hospital before being transferred to a private hospital in Bengaluru for advanced care, where her condition is now reported as stable.
