Ukrainian Energy Infrastructure Targeted Amid Ongoing Strikes
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russian strikes have left thousands without power, while Russian officials claimed a significant drone attack on an industrial facility in Nizhny Novgorod.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Russian strikes on energy infrastructure have resulted in widespread power outages, affecting thousands of households across four regions: Dnipro, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, and Khmelnytskyi. He stated on social media that substations, transformers, and power lines were targeted, leaving hundreds of thousands without electricity and noting that the intensity of the attacks is extremely high.
These comments coincided with reports from Russian officials regarding a large-scale Ukrainian drone strike on an industrial facility in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Governor Gleb Nikitin reported that over a hundred drones were destroyed during the attack, which caused significant damage to an unspecified industrial site. He indicated that there were no casualties but warned of potential temporary power outages and reduced hot water and heating services in affected areas.
Additionally, the governor of Russia's Samara region attributed an earlier drone attack to Ukraine, which struck an oil refinery in Novokuibyshevsk city. Reports indicate that Ukraine had previously agreed to pause strikes on Russian oil refineries until after the U.S. midterm elections, but the Kremlin has continued its attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
