Trump Indicates Murdochs May Join U.S. Investor Group in TikTok Acquisition

Summary

President Donald Trump suggests Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch could be part of a U.S. investor group aiming to acquire TikTok's American operations.

President Donald Trump has indicated that media magnates Rupert Murdoch and his son Lachlan Murdoch are likely to be involved in a U.S. investor group seeking to acquire TikTok's American operations. In a recent interview on Fox News' "The Sunday Briefing," Trump mentioned that the Murdochs, along with Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison and Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell, are expected to participate in the deal. He described them as "really great people, very prominent people," emphasizing their patriotism and love for the country.

This development follows a 2024 U.S. law mandating the divestiture of TikTok's U.S. operations by its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, due to national security concerns. The proposed agreement would see American investors holding a majority stake in a new entity overseeing TikTok's U.S. operations, with ByteDance retaining less than 20% ownership. Oracle is slated to manage U.S. user data and privacy, while Americans will occupy six of the seven board seats.

Notably, Trump's comments come amid an ongoing lawsuit he filed against Rupert Murdoch and The Wall Street Journal concerning the publication of allegations linking Trump to Jeffrey Epstein.
