Two Aam Aadmi Party MLAs have resigned from the Punjab assembly after the party unveiled its first candidate list for the 2027 elections, highlighting what critics see as growing disorder, factionalism, and weak leadership inside AAP.
In a major political development, two Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra from Sanaur and Chetan Singh Jouramajra from Samana, have resigned from the Punjab assembly. Their resignations followed shortly after AAP announced its first list of 40 candidates for the 2027 assembly elections, underscoring mounting unrest within the party.
Pathanmajra’s exit comes after a prolonged dispute with the party leadership over several matters, including the government's handling of flooding and the criminal cases against him. Jouramajra’s resignation has raised further doubts about the party’s internal discipline, particularly after he faced scrutiny when former Shiromani Akali Dal leader Surjit Singh Rakhra joined AAP and was given a prominent role in Samana, a move widely viewed as pushing aside the local MLA.
The AAP candidate list, announced by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, includes re-nominations for 40 MLAs, with Mann himself contesting from Dhuri. Notably, jailed Cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora is set to run from Ludhiana West. The list also features four women MLAs representing various constituencies. Mann said the early announcement demonstrates the party’s readiness and confidence in its governance, even as the resignations point to serious internal friction.
