FBI Investigates Donors Amid Alaska Senate Race Controversy

Ամփոփում

The FBI has contacted donors of Senate candidate Dan J. Sullivan in Alaska as part of a widening investigation into potential election fraud, coinciding with the upcoming ranked choice general election.

The FBI has initiated contact with donors supporting Dan J. Sullivan, a candidate in the Alaska Senate race, as part of a criminal investigation into potential deception related to campaign contributions. Agents have reached out to individuals in Petersburg and Sitka, Alaska, as well as a couple in Massachusetts.

An FBI agent visited a boat dealership in Petersburg, where donor Charles Flint, who contributed $500 to Sullivan's campaign, stated he was asked whether he felt misled about the candidate he supported. Flint expressed confidence in his choice, emphasizing that he does not believe there is any confusion among voters regarding the incumbent senator. He plans to rank Democrat Mary Peltola first on his ballot, followed by Sullivan.

President Donald Trump commented on the investigation, labeling it "voter fraud at the highest level" and suggesting that Sullivan was evading scrutiny. He also implied that Democratic leaders outside Alaska might be implicated in the situation.

Alaska U.S. Attorney Michael Heyman confirmed that the investigation has been ongoing for several months, but recent reports regarding Peltola's campaign involvement have intensified law enforcement efforts in the state. Other donors have reported similar inquiries from the FBI, with agents emphasizing the voluntary nature of their conversations.

As the ranked choice general election approaches, Peltola has denied any wrongdoing, calling the allegations against her a "smear campaign" aimed at suppressing voter turnout. She expressed confidence in her ability to win the race without external assistance.
