Analysts Raise Tesla Price Targets Amid Optimism in AI and Robotics
Baird and Goldman Sachs have increased their price targets for Tesla, citing advancements in AI and robotics, while maintaining differing ratings on the stock.
Tesla's stock experienced an uptick following revised price targets from major financial analysts. Baird analyst Ben Kallo elevated his price target to $548 from $320, upgrading the stock to a 'Buy' rating. Kallo highlighted Tesla's potential in autonomous driving and robotics, referring to an impending 'physical AI inflection' driven by self-driving taxis and humanoid robots.
Goldman Sachs analyst Mark Delaney also raised his price target from $300 to $395 but maintained a 'Neutral' rating. Delaney anticipates Tesla delivering 455,000 vehicles in the third quarter, surpassing the consensus estimate of 445,000. He noted that increased U.S. electric vehicle sales in September, spurred by customers aiming to benefit from federal tax credits before their expiration, contribute to this projection.
In premarket trading, Tesla's stock was priced at $421.40, marking a 1.1% increase. This follows a seven-day winning streak that added nearly 23% to its market value. The stock is approaching a resistance level of $440, considered a significant threshold by traders.
These analyst updates coincide with several positive developments for Tesla. CEO Elon Musk recently disclosed a $1 billion stock purchase. The company is reportedly preparing to expand its robo-taxi service from Austin to Las Vegas. Additionally, the Federal Reserve's rate cut has reduced auto financing costs, further supporting the stock's upward momentum.
Despite these optimistic projections, some analysts remain cautious. The average Wall Street price target for Tesla stands at $314, suggesting potential downside from current levels. Approximately 45% of analysts rate the stock as a 'Buy,' compared to 55% for the broader S&P 500.
Kallo emphasizes Tesla's array of potential breakthroughs, including AI-trained robots like Optimus and its robo-taxi fleet, which he believes could redefine transportation economics. He describes the company's future as 'chock-full of catalysts.'
While Tesla faces competition from Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers and challenges in delivery growth and execution, analysts like Kallo suggest that successful advancements in AI could significantly elevate the stock's value.
