Russia Launches Extensive Drone and Missile Assault Across Ukraine

Russia launched a large-scale drone and missile assault on Ukraine from Friday night into Saturday morning, deploying over 600 aerial weapons, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. The attack targeted multiple regions, including Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Kyiv, Odesa, Sumy, and Kharkiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that at least three people were killed and dozens injured. He stated that the enemy aimed at infrastructure, residential areas, and civilian enterprises, noting that in Dnipro, a missile with cluster munitions directly struck an apartment building.

The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the strikes, stating they targeted Ukrainian military-industrial complex enterprises developing the Sapsan tactical missile system and producing various drones and combat vehicles. The ministry claimed that all designated targets were hit.

Ukraine's air defense systems intercepted the majority of the projectiles, with the Air Force reporting that 552 drones and 31 missiles were downed. Despite these efforts, significant damage occurred, particularly in Dnipro, where a missile struck a residential building.

In response to the escalating conflict, NATO launched Operation Eastern Sentry to enhance its air defense posture along the bloc's eastern edge. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslav Sikorski suggested that NATO should shoot down Russian drones operating over western Ukraine.

Ukrainian officials continue to advocate for expanded sanctions and tariffs against Russia, emphasizing the need for a strong international response to deter further aggression. President Zelenskyy emphasized that every such strike is not a military necessity but a deliberate strategy by Russia to terrorize civilians and destroy infrastructure, calling for a strong international response.
