Packers rally past Panthers 27-19 behind strong passing and defense
Green Bay overcame early turnovers to defeat Carolina 27-19, highlighted by quarterback Jordan Love's efficient passing and a dominant defensive performance.
The Green Bay Packers recovered from two first-half fumbles, including one on the opening kickoff, to beat the Carolina Panthers 27-19 on Thursday night. After trailing twice in the first half, the Packers built a 20-10 lead at halftime and later extended the margin to 17 points in the second half.
Green Bay relied on the passing game, outgaining Carolina 354 to 258 yards. Quarterback Jordan Love completed 30 of 41 attempts for 288 yards and three touchdowns, posting a 106.6 passer rating. Wide receiver Christian Watson recorded a game-high 113 receiving yards on eight catches, including a 53-yard reception that set up a touchdown.
Defensively, the Packers sacked Panthers quarterback Bryce Young six times, a season high, and forced two turnovers. Linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper logged a career-high eight tackles, three pass breakups, his first sack and first interception, which led to a 43-yard touchdown drive. Edge rusher Lukas Van Ness added six tackles and a sack, bringing his total to 4.5 for the season, while edge Brenton Cox Jr. contributed pressures, a sack and a fumble recovery on the Panthers' final play.
The victory followed a loss to the Detroit Lions the previous Sunday and gave Green Bay a needed boost heading into the remainder of the season.
