IndiGo narrows quarterly loss as revenue jumps 26% in FY27 Q2
IndiGo reported a reduced consolidated loss of Rs 1,879 crore for the September quarter, while revenue from operations rose 26% year-on-year to Rs 23,364 crore.
Budget carrier IndiGo posted a narrower consolidated loss of Rs 1,879 crore in the second quarter of FY27, down from Rs 2,582 crore a year earlier, though the loss widened from Rs 237 crore in the June quarter. Revenue from operations increased 26% year-on-year to Rs 23,364 crore.
The airline’s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, amortisation and aircraft rentals (EBITDAR) rose to Rs 2,460 crore from Rs 1,114 crore a year ago, but the margin fell to 15.5% from 20.5% after excluding foreign-exchange effects. Fuel expenses surged 67% to Rs 9,967 crore, pushing fuel cost per available seat kilometre (CASK) up 68.9% to Rs 2.44.
"The seasonally soft September quarter saw exceptionally elevated fuel costs and continued geopolitical turmoil," said IndiGo CEO Willie Walsh. He added that the airline reduced capacity and improved yields to partially offset higher operating costs.
Passenger yield grew 34% to Rs 6.3 per kilometre, while ticket revenue rose 29% to Rs 20,652 crore and ancillary revenue increased 15.9% to Rs 2,481 crore. However, passenger traffic fell 5% to 27.5 million and capacity slipped 1% to 40.8 billion available seat kilometres, resulting in a load factor of 80.3%.
The carrier added a net ten aircraft, operating a fleet of 442 aircraft at the end of September, and maintained an on-time performance of 91.3% with a cancellation rate of 0.35%. Cash balances stood at Rs 52,685 crore, while total debt, including lease liabilities, was Rs 87,303 crore.
IndiGo expects capacity to grow in the December quarter and guided for a modest increase in available seat kilometres in Q3 FY27 compared with the same period last year. Walsh said the airline will continue focusing on cost management and disciplined expansion amid ongoing fuel price volatility and geopolitical uncertainty.
