Kamala Harris Criticizes Joe Biden's 2024 Campaign Decisions in New Memoir
In her forthcoming memoir, '107 Days,' Kamala Harris critiques Joe Biden's 2024 re-election bid and details internal tensions during the campaign.
In her upcoming memoir, 107 Days, former Vice President Kamala Harris offers a candid account of her 2024 presidential campaign following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the race. Harris critiques Biden's decision to seek re-election at age 81, describing it as "reckless" and expressing concerns about his declining performance during the campaign. She notes that Biden's inner circle "should have realized that any campaign was a bridge too far," yet "it seemed that the worse things got, the more they pushed him."
Harris also reveals moments of tension with Biden. Prior to a crucial debate against Donald Trump, Biden called her to relay that his brother had spoken with influential figures in Philadelphia who were hesitant to support her due to perceived criticisms of Biden. Harris recalls feeling "angry and disappointed" by the timing and nature of the call, especially as she was preparing for a significant debate.
The memoir further discusses Harris's considerations for a running mate. She identifies Pete Buttigieg as her "first choice" but ultimately deemed the pairing too risky, believing that America wasn't prepared to accept a ticket featuring both a Black woman and an openly gay man. Instead, she selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, though she expresses dissatisfaction with his debate performance against JD Vance.
Harris also addresses internal campaign challenges, including a damaging appearance on The View where she struggled to differentiate herself from Biden's administration. She acknowledges that her association with Biden may have hindered her candidacy, with senior adviser David Plouffe bluntly stating, "People hate Joe Biden."
107 Days is scheduled for release next week, providing an introspective look into Harris's experiences during one of the most extraordinary campaign seasons in U.S. political history.
