Authorities in Washington state have discovered remains believed to be those of Travis Decker, the father suspected of killing his three young daughters in June. The Chelan County Sheriff's Office announced that the remains were found south of Leavenworth during a recent search and are undergoing DNA analysis for confirmation.
Decker, 32, had been the subject of a manhunt since June 2, when the bodies of his daughters—Paityn, 9; Evelyn, 8; and Olivia, 5—were found near a campground in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. The girls had been reported missing after Decker failed to return them following a scheduled visitation. Their bodies were discovered with zip ties and plastic bags over their heads, and preliminary examinations indicated asphyxiation as the cause of death.
Decker, a former Army infantryman with survival training, was considered dangerous and had been evading capture for over three months. His ex-wife, Whitney Decker, had previously expressed concerns about his mental health and unstable living conditions, which included residing in his truck. A $20,000 reward had been offered for information leading to his arrest.
The discovery of the remains marks a significant development in the case, though authorities await DNA results to confirm the identity. The investigation into the deaths of the three children continues as the community seeks closure in this tragic incident.
