CNN analyst Harry Enten says recent polls show President Trump maintains high approval within the MAGA base while his support has declined among non-MAGA Republicans and independents.
CNN data analyst Harry Enten highlighted discrepancies between poll clips President Trump shares at rallies and broader polling data. Enten noted that a May poll cited by Trump showed 53 % of Republicans naming him the most admired president, while a separate NBC News survey from March reported 100 % support among self-identified MAGA voters.
Enten cautioned that those figures omit trends outside the MAGA segment. He said support among non-MAGA Republicans has fallen below the president’s disapproval rating and that approval among independents is down by about 50 points, a gap he compared to historic lows for previous presidents.
"President Trump plays the clips that are best for him and his base," Enten said.
Enten added that the broader electorate, particularly independents, will be decisive in the upcoming midterm elections and that current polling suggests a significant disadvantage for the Republican Party. He warned that the trend could lead to substantial losses for the party in congressional races.
