M2 motorway in Kent remains closed after serious collision

Summary

Kent Police and National Highways said the M2 between junctions 3 and 5 (coastbound) and junctions 5 and 4 (London-bound) will stay closed for several hours following a serious crash near Medway Services.

A serious collision on the M2 near Medway Services has forced the motorway to stay closed in both directions. Kent Police reported that the incident occurred at about 9:10 p.m. on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, affecting the coastbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 5 and the London-bound carriageway between junctions 5 and 4.

"Motorists should continue to find alternative routes if possible," Kent Police advised.

National Highways confirmed that emergency services are on scene and that the closure is expected to last several hours, extending into daylight. The agency added that traffic officers are assisting with traffic management.

Delays are building on the London-bound side near Bredgar at junction 5, as well as on the A249 and M20 diversion routes past Maidstone. Congestion is also reported on the A229 towards Maidstone.
