Narendra Prasad Singh of the BJP secured the Tirhut teachers constituency in Bihar's Legislative Council elections, while counting proceeds for seven other seats.

Narendra Prasad Singh, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), won the Tirhut teachers constituency in the Bihar Legislative Council elections on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. Singh received 2,945 votes, defeating independent candidate Bhushan Jha, who obtained 2,351 votes; Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate Sanjay Singh finished third with 1,967 votes.

The election covered eight MLC seats, with voting held on October 23, 2026. Counting is underway for the remaining seven seats, which include four graduate constituencies (Kosi, Tirhut, Patna, Darbhanga) and three teachers’ constituencies (Saran, Patna, Darbhanga).

Initial tallies show Janata Dal (United) candidate Neeraj Kumar trailing in the Patna graduate constituency, while Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Dilip Patel leads. Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) candidate Anuj Singh, supported by former JD(U) MLA Anant Singh, is in third place.

In the Darbhanga teachers’ constituency, JSP candidate Surendra Prasad Rai is ahead, and Congress MLC Madan Mohan Jha is behind. Independent candidate Rahul Raj leads in the Saran teachers’ constituency, and BJP’s N.K. Yadav is leading in the Kosi graduate seat, followed by JSP’s Rajnish Ranjan and RJD’s Nitish Kumar.

The Patna teachers’ race remains close between BJP’s Nawal Kishore Yadav and RJD’s Sajeev Kumar. In the Darbhanga graduate constituency, RJD’s Anil Jha is ahead of BJP’s Sarvesh Kumar.

Anant Singh, who was expelled from JD(U) for six years for anti-party activities, maintains that JD(U) candidate Neeraj Kumar will be defeated. Final results are expected to be announced on the morning of Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
