Ontario launches free flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccinations starting Oct. 26

Summary

Ontario's fall immunization program begins Oct. 26, offering free flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccines at pharmacies, public health units and participating medical offices.

Ontario's government announced that free flu and COVID-19 vaccinations will be available to the public from Oct. 26 at participating pharmacies, public health units and doctors' or nurse practitioners' offices. The rollout is part of the province's fall immunization program, which also includes respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccines for eligible residents.

Adults aged 60 to 74 who meet high-risk criteria or live in designated settings, as well as all adults 75 and older, can receive the RSV vaccines Abrysvo® or Arexvy at any time during the year. Newborns and infants up to eight months in their first RSV season, and high-risk children up to 24 months in their second season, are eligible for the Beyfortus® immunization. Pregnant women may obtain the Abrysvo® vaccine from obstetricians, midwives or primary-care providers to protect newborns.

"As respiratory illness season approaches, our government is continuing to take action to protect our families and communities," said Sylvia Jones, deputy premier and minister of health, in a news release.

"Staying up to date on recommended immunizations remains one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of serious illness," said Dr. Kieran Moore, chief medical officer of health.

All vaccines listed in Ontario's routine immunization schedule are provided at no cost to those who meet eligibility requirements. Residents unsure of their eligibility are advised to consult a health-care provider or local public health unit.
