Partial counting in Bihar’s Legislative Council elections handed the BJP the Tirhut Teachers constituency, while the Jan Suraaj Party’s advantage in Darbhanga shrank as more results came in. Several close races remain unresolved, with counting continuing across the state.
Partial results from Bihar’s Legislative Council elections showed the BJP candidate Narendra Prasad Singh winning the Tirhut Teachers constituency with 2,945 votes, ahead of independent Bhushan Jha (2,351 votes) and CPI candidate Sanjay Singh. The result is still awaiting formal announcement, underscoring how the count remains unfinished.
In the Kosi Graduates constituency, BJP candidate N.K. Yadav leads by roughly 1,500 votes. In the Darbhanga Teachers seat, Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) candidate Suresh Rai initially held a 387-vote advantage with 2,574 votes, but local reports indicate the margin is shrinking as Congress contender Madan Mohan Jha trails with 2,187 votes and BJP's Ramdev Rai with 1,498 votes.
Independent candidate Rahul Raj, described as a BJP rebel, topped the Saran Teachers constituency with 2,723 votes, followed by the NDA candidate at 2,440 votes and JSP's Afaq Ahmad with 1,999 votes.
Further results are expected after 10 PM for the Patna Teachers and Graduates constituencies. BJP's Sarvesh Kumar won the Darbhanga Graduates seat, defeating RJD's Anil Jha, while the Tirhut Graduates seat shows independent Banshidhar Brajwasi in the lead.
In Patna, the Graduates constituency sees JD(U) incumbent Neeraj Kumar defending his seat against JSP's Anuj Singh, who is supported by expelled JD(U) MLA Anant Singh. RJD's Dilip Patel has emerged with a narrow 16-vote lead, overturning Kumar's earlier confidence. The Patna Teachers seat has BJP's Naval Kishore Yadav ahead by 145 votes over RJD's Sanjeev Singh.
Overall, about 150 candidates are contesting the eight seats, with vote counting that began on Tuesday morning at 8 AM.
